The Baitrunner X-Aero 4000 is Shimano’s premium model in the compact Baitrunner range and has been designed for ambitious feeder anglers and specialists who value a free-spool mechanism. The Baitrunner X-Aero 4000 has many fans. No wonder. Because if you’re looking for a reel for light carp fishing and specimen fishing, the Baitrunner X-Aero 4000 is the perfect choice. The legendary and easy-to-use Shimano free-spool system offers a huge advantage, particularly when fishing for carp and barbel, where bites often come out of nowhere and the fish take a lot of line very quickly on the first run. When the free spool is activated, the line is released with minimal friction so that the fish feel no resistance – until the moment you pick up the rod and deactivate the free spool by cranking, causing the front drag to engage immediately and the fight to begin.

Although the Baitrunner X-Aero 4000 is relatively compact, it offers maximum power. Over the years, incredibly large specimen fish have been landed using it. The X-Ship gear system runs incredibly smoothly even under maximum load. In combination with the 1:4.8 gear ratio and the S A-RB ball bearings, the gear produces impressive power when reeling in heavy loads. The large AR-C spool ensures superb casting performance and can easily be spooled with thick monofilament lines, whilst also being ideal for use with thin braided lines. The X-Aero 4000 pairs superbly with many Shimano specimen, specialist and feeder rods. For smaller carp ponds and for stalking carp, the shorter or lighter Tribal rods are recommended. Almost all Specimen rods are suitable for barbel, and for feeder fishing – particularly for carp and tench – Shimano’s medium to heavy feeder rods from the Aero range are the best choice.
